The Peitzer Teiche is the biggest German pond country. It is a paradise of birds, here you can find unusual birds, too. In the 15th century Franciscan monks made a fish hatchery in Cottbus. First at 1470 fishhatchery wrote down at paper. The ponds were first mentioned historically in 1470. In 1565 a Lord of Brandenburg founded the Peitzer Teiche. 1585 5 tonnes of fish, were fished out of the ponds. A new creation, the Peitzer Karpfen was built in 1897. Today lots of people know of them. The Restaurant Karpfen Klause, is near to the ponds, and here, you can eat fish of this and other ponds, like trout, Zander, eel and Wels. If you visit, you enjoy yourself and see pure nature. With a boat you can go out on to the ponds and see many little islands, where birds have young. For example Eisvogel, cormorant and Graureiher have here one of the biggest colonies. By bike or onfoot you can explore it, too. At one of the ponds you can go fishing.
